Jeff Brohm’s Hilltopper Hype; Matt Jones’ Big Blue Bias

Jeff Brohm is making alumni like me quite proud — he’s about to embark on his second season at the helm of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers with one of the most exciting teams EVER. WKU has come a long way since I was a student, watching the ‘Tops beat Morehead 10-3 in front of a few thousand fans in a one-sided stadium. Some experts are picking WKU as a dark horse to go undefeated, and the Brandon Doughty, has a player that will for the first time ever cause the words “Heisman” and “WKU” to be in the same sentence.

Of course, a lot of Louisville fans love to hate Matt Jones, the unabashed basher of all things Cardinal and perhaps the most widely heard talk show host in Big Blue Country. It’s no wonder the people planning the Fancy Farm political shindig in western Kentucky chose him to host the event — there are a lot of Kentuckians who will listen to anything Jones says. Stay tuned to the end to hear Jones’ assessments of other prominent locals — our Mayor and a certain broadcaster with whom he does not share a point of view.

In the news, there was a minor media flap when the Mayor’s Office tried to hold a press conference and not allow cameras. The Boy Scouts took a step forward, and a step back, in the ongoing controversy over the sexual orientation of their leaders. My favorite college players of all time, Rex Chapman, is featured in a fascinating profile in Sports Illustrated. I’m off to New Orleans to hang with my son, former Rusty guest Nick Redding, and heading back in time for Lyle Lovett’s show on Sunday. See you there!
