It was an interesting afternoon – this January 27 in Louisville — for the Rusty Satellite Show. The snow began to fall around 3, well ahead of my scheduled 5 p.m. interview with Metro Councilman and Mayoral candidate David James. But he showed up at NuLu Marketplace and Hectare’s right on time, and we had a great conversation about his vision for tackling the city’s problems, some 14 months ahead of what promises to be a competitive and crowded primary to succeed Greg Fischer.

Interesting to note that James was my guest once before, way back in August 2013, when I was just figuring out how this podcast thing works.
Tonya Abeln, three years into her job at VP of Communications at Churchill Downs, graciously agreed to come down to the West Sixth Brewery next door, where we had a beer and watched it snow, talking about our mutual enthusiasm for the Kentucky Derby. This week she released a video that got some attention, recalling the before-times when 170,000 people packed themselves under the Twin Spires.
Tonya was a fan of the Derby long before she got her current assignment, and recalls her very first Derby — though she needed my help to remember who won that year. We also discussed the still-developing plans for this year’s race, just 93 days away.
In other news the Kentucky Derby Festival announced its plans to hold events — without spectators — in the weeks before the race. Although we’re always announcing restaurant closings (Martin’s BBQ on Barrett) we had good news with Friend-of-the-Show Dennie Humphrey revealing a new bar in the Highlands and Super Chef Darnell Ferguson revealing plans to open a seafood restaurant in the West End.
Our new sponsor, Home Cuisine, has got me in a positive frame of mind on the KETO diet, as I’ve already dropped a few pounds in the first week. And remember to call me at 502-439-6391 if you’re thinking of buying or selling your home. As an agent with eXp Realty, I have all the tools to make your experience a great one.
