John Nation

It’s a milestone of sorts here in Rusty Satellite Show #20.

I’ve been trying to get schedules straight with Steve Coomes for a while – maybe I was hoping he’d want to meet somewhere over a beer, but we managed to get the interview done at the Louisville.am studios. I’ve known Steve since the early 2000s, when I hired him away from Pizza Today to start a new Pizza-focused web site. We’ve been great friends since, even after we stopped working together every day. I’ve been a big admirer of Steve’s dedication to his work and his ability to carve out a nice living as a freelance food writer. And he gets to take some cool trips, too.

John Nation tells a few interesting tales in this interview — first about a trip to the mountains to get a portrait of Christy Brown for the book 100 Fascinating Women in Louisville.  We also discuss how he got started and how he’s adjusted to the changing world of photography.

Also, I discuss the Society of Professional Journalist panel I attended this week, and wrote about for Insider Louisville here. And I was certainly interested in the debate over plagiarism involving Rand Paul, and wonder how the controversy will affect his prospect for President. I would never support Paul, or any Tea Party candidate, for President, but really don’t see how he’ll be able to shake this plagiarism story moving forward.

It’s the first week for my new Rusty Satellite sponsor, Passport Health Plan. A big thank you to the folks there.
